About Xmale

I am gay photographer based in Edinburgh, Scotland and have been specialising in all styles of male photography for over 25 years. I have a natural, friendly and relaxed approach to my photography with my own instinctive style.

People decide to get naked in front of my camera for many different reasons. For some it's a capturing a turning point or celebrating mile stone in their life by stepping out of ones comfort zone. For others, it's to reclaim body positivity, or maybe you’re ready to let go of the past and live in the moment, with a new life experience.

For some, it may be their first step into professional adult modelling, requiring an initial portfolio of high‑quality images. For others, it’s about updating their portfolio with fresh visuals to reflect an exciting new direction. Others may be adult online content creators, seeking professional images for marketing purposes or premium images for their subscribers...

Everyone has a different story and a reason, and everyone is welcome...

Male boudoir photography

As the subject, you need to feel relaxed, comfortable and at ease with the person photographing you, after all a Boudoir photoshoot is a very intimate collection of images of yourself, and perhaps your partner also...

Boudoir photography is a specialist discipline. Many women will choose a dedicated female boudoir photographer who understands both the technical craft and the importance of comfort, trust, and confidence, ensuring a professional and empowering experience from start to finish.

I’ve found that men seeking a male boudoir photoshoot often value working with a photographer who truly understands their perspective. As a male photographer, I’m able to guide posing naturally and create a relaxed, friendly environment. Many clients have shared how quickly they felt at ease and how much they enjoyed the experience.

While women have embraced boudoir photography for centuries, it is a whole new phenonium for men, who are more reserved than woman when it comes to this style of photography, but are who are now embracing it.

My aim is to create a friendly, relaxed, comfortable, safe and welcoming environment, whether you are being photographed at one of my studios, or at another location.

About Me

Adult‑themed photography has moved steadily into the mainstream over recent years, with male boudoir—commonly known as dudeoir—becoming an increasingly popular and respected form of personal expression.

I’m not a traditional portrait photographer. While many claim to be LGBTQ+ friendly, my work is driven by a genuine enthusiasm for male photography. As a gay male photographer, I understand the male form and how to photograph men with confidence, sensitivity, and authenticity—helping clients relax and present the very best version of themselves.

Over my 25‑year journey as a photographer, I’ve completed freelance work for a range of publications and organisations, including Gay Times, Attitude, Euroboy, and Scotia Pride (Edinburgh Pride).

I’m a self‑taught photographer, not constrained by traditional rules of formal portraiture. I strongly believe in the idea that the human body is one of the most powerful forms of art—sometimes it simply takes the right environment and guidance for that expression to come through.

I founded Xmale Photography to provide a safe, relaxed space where clients can create the style of images they’ve always wanted to have taken. Many clients come to me because they’re looking for a photography experience that’s genuinely different—more personal, more expressive, and far removed from the standard approaches offered elsewhere

My Style

My photographic style is as natural and unobtrusive as possible, whether working in the studio or on location—be that a client’s home, a hotel suite, or outdoors. Every photographer brings their own individuality and approach to their work, and mine is rooted in simplicity, authenticity, and connection.

While I do provide gentle guidance during sessions, I’m not drawn to overly staged or rigid posing. Instead, I encourage clients to express themselves freely while I work quietly in the background. This approach is especially effective with couples, allowing genuine interaction and intimacy to unfold naturally and be captured honestly.

I hope to see you very soon...

WHAT PEOPLE HAVE SAID

You could not have been more professional, friendly or helpful with ideas and guidance.

Who knew being photographed naked could be so much fun and exhilarating.

(Tony H)

Really nice guy and very friendly to boot. We exchanged emails before the photoshoot, so I knew what to take and how the photoshoot would play out, so there were no surprises

Really good value for money for the number of varied type of edited images I received in the final gallery to choose from.

(Conner)

Knowing that you were a gay photographer was a big plus and made us relax quicker, as we wanted to be sexually intimate.

What a great find in Edinburgh, saved us going to London or Manchester.
